Huedin ( Hungarian Bánffyhunyad , German Heynod ) is a town in Cluj County in Transylvania , Romania .
Geographical location
Huedin is located in the Apuseni Mountains (part of the Romanian Western Carpathians ) and is surrounded by the villages of Nearșova , Domoșu and Horlacea . Located on the Budapest – Oradea – Cluj-Napoca – Bucharest railway line and European route 60 , Huedin is 50 kilometers northwest of the district capital of Cluj-Napoca ( Klausenburg ).

In 2002, 9439 people were registered in Huedin. 58.45% of them were Romanians , 32.49% Magyars and 8.97% were Roma (part of them Rudari ). Furthermore, three Romania German and one each Slovak and Ukrainian registered. The number of Roma is constantly increasing (they are sedentary "hat gypsies", some of whom have made considerable wealth).
history
Huedin was founded in the Middle Ages, between 1330 and 1848 it was owned by the Bánffy family , which is also suggested by the Hungarian name of the city. In 1910 90.5% of the population (then 5,194) were Hungarian, the proportion of Jews was 20.7%. In terms of religion, Calvinists made up 57.5% of the city's population.
Recently, Huedin is developing as a starting point for ecotourism trips.
Attractions
- The reformed church with a low tower, the choir was built in 1483, has six windows worth seeing and is a listed building.
- The Romanian Orthodox Church , formerly Greek Catholic , was established in 1907–1910.
