The Bärenbach is a tributary of the Rems in the Rems-Murr district in central Baden-Württemberg. Together with each of its two source streams, it is around 8 km long and flows from the right and north on the lower edge of Plüderhausen across from two small quarry ponds west of the industrial area road Im Rank at 255.4  m above sea level. NHN in the Rems.

geography

course

The Bärenbach arises south of the Eselshalden and Breitenfürst residential areas of the city of Welzheim in the forest at about 380  m above sea level. NHN from the confluence of at least seven springs. The arms of the spring flow in the west from the Krähenberg and in the east from the Eibenhau at the residential area Eibenhof ; the longest comes from the Langwiesenklinge in the east, at over 470  m above sea level. The north-western spring arm Eselshaldenbächle , which arises not far from the southern curve that the state road from Welzheim to Haubersbronn makes at its beginning valley path around Eselshalden , rises above sea level and thus highest . The source of the main stream upper course from the Langwiesenklingen, on the other hand, lies like some other sources in the river system of the brook at an altitude of 460  m above sea level. NHN .

The stream flows from its confluence to the south, after a few hundred meters it is dammed into a small lake by the road crossing the valley of a forest road. Then, shortly after a stream fell from the Rappenklinge from the east, it passes in the floodplain forest under a clearing around the Köshof residential area on the left edge of the hill , across from which other streams run from the west. After approx. 700 m the Große St. Margareten Bach flows out of the Gewann St. Margarete, which itself has a strongly branched network of source brooks. The bottom of the valley slopes steadily, while in the east the Plüderwiesenhof is located on a small hill near the Roter Burren nature reserve in another height clearing . From the west, water flows from the Geißbrunnen alongside other source streams .

The next well-known side stream is the Lützelbach, whose sources in the Gewann Kammergehren are only a few hundred meters away from the sources of the Great St. Margareten Bach tributary, Kohlhaldenbach. It has a whole swarm of spring streams, including tributaries down from the Heuberg in the east. The watershed of the catchment area runs over its springs over the Geiststein . The valley floor widens at the gypsy oak south-east of the young Hau win on the spur of the mouth of the Lützelbach . From then on, meadows accompany the Lützelbach. After about a hundred meters it joins the Bärenbach below the Owl Mountain.

From the hill of the Eulenhof at the Bärenbachhof another spring stream flows from the east to the Bärenbach. After about 600 m, it crosses under the first local road at a point where the Hohbach flows from the same side , the sources at Heidenbühl and in Gewann Stechers Wand on the north side of the Hohberg ( 499  m above sea level ). The Vordere Hohbachwiesen nature reserve is adjacent to this . After a further 600 m, the Eisenbach flows again from the left , which rises in the Gewann Lochtobel am Hohberg and passes the Ilgenhof residential area .

From now on, the Bärenbach turns a little to the west. At the point where the K 1880 crosses the stream, the Mühlkanal Maierbach branches off, which runs into the Urbach, which runs further west to the Rems . The Bärenbach then enters the valley floor of the Remstal. It is crossed by the Remstalbahn and meanders a little on the western edge of the industrial zone of Plüderhausen, before it flows into the Rems from the right and finally northeast, about from the Mühlkanal exit again on the district of Plüderhausen.

In its course, the Bärenbach is in parts the border between the communities Urbach and Plüderhausen.

Catchment area

The Bärenbach has a catchment area of a little more than 16 km², which lies in the natural area of the Schurwald and Welzheimer Forest , with the northern part in the lower area of the Vorderer Welzheimer Forest , with the southern part in the lower area of the Middle Remstal and Schorndorfer Basin . It stretches from Breitenfürst in the north south to the confluence with the Rems. Compared to the neighboring streams, it is quite wide and is dominated by Heuberg and Hohberg in the east, which also send the stream its largest tributaries. They are located on the watershed to the Walkersbach , the next larger stream upstream to the Rems. Like islands, there are other elevations such as Köshof and Plüderwiesenhof in the catchment area.

The tributaries from the west are significantly shorter. The right watershed runs over Rohrberg , Zwerenberg and Alter Berg and separates it from the catchment area of the competing Urbach . The northern watershed, which roughly follows the route of the L 1150 from Eselshalden to Breitenfürst, delimits the catchment area of the Wieslauf , the largest tributary of the Rems, which flows only a few kilometers downstream; The direct competitor here is their Edenbach inflow .

geology

The Bärenbach rises in the transition area between the Lower Jurassic plateau around Breitenfürst and the upper Mittelkeuper layers below . From there it digs into the Keup layers. It runs through the Keuper for the largest part of its flow path, in which many small blades run towards it from the lateral ridges, which are mostly covered by Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein formation ). The Heuberg in the southeast is a layered island of the Lower Jurassic, so to speak a witness mountain of the Welzheim-Alfdorfer Platten in the north, which has a southern spur on the Heuberg in the east, while this itself only protrudes up to the height of the marl ( Trossingen formation ) in between.

history

The spirit stone has probably served Christian factions as a meeting place since the Reformation, and later especially the Baptists . The "Anabaptists" were often "expelled from the country" until the 19th century. However, since the small German states were very fragmented, it was often possible that these people only moved a few kilometers and came back, so to speak, from the “neighboring country” to manage their goods. Remote forest areas were popular as meeting places where worship could be celebrated undisturbed. Some of these "forest churches" were protected by haunted stories. This also includes the spirit stone. Until 2005, the Lorch Forestry Office's training company was located at the Eulenhof. The forest used to be largely owned by the Lorch Monastery . In the vicinity of the "Eibenhau" area there are also two old Württemberg boundary stones.
