Vordere Hohbachwiesen is the name of a nature reserve in Urbach ( Rems-Murr-Kreis , Baden-Württemberg ). The protection purpose is "the preservation and promotion of the richly structured meadow landscape , the forest mantle and the near-natural brook with typical, in some cases highly endangered animal and plant species". The area was placed under protection by ordinance of the Stuttgart Regional Council of December 23, 1991.
Location, geology, history of use
The area is located about 1.5 km east of Urbach town center in the immediate vicinity of the hamlet of Bärenbach at the transition from Hohbach to Bärenbachtal .
Geologically , the areas extend from the gypsum keuper over the reed sandstone (sometimes stepping) and the lower colored marl to the silica sandstone ( 280 m above sea level to 350 m above sea level ). The spectrum of soils is correspondingly broad: from dry to wet, with the moderately dry, rather poor soils predominating.
In the 19th century the area was mainly used for arable farming, only the more humid areas served as grassland. The areas were possibly part of the Urbacher Allmende . The part of the forest that is part of the nature reserve today was pasture at the time , later the reforestation with spruce took place .
Character, flora and fauna
The large, extensively used meadows ( sage and oat meadows ) are the habitat of numerous plants. They unfold their splendor especially in late spring: for example, meadow sage , wild goat whiskers , and orchid orchid bloom . This diversity in turn forms the basis for numerous insects , especially butterflies . The red-backed shrike is also native here; it uses the individual bushes in the area.
Maintenance measures
In 1994, detailed care measures were developed for the meadows, which contract farmers implement.
Danger
The Bärenbach and Hohbach valleys are popular local recreation areas for the Schorndorfer area. The nature reserve borders on two club grounds, an often used barbecue area and the outside areas of a restaurant. As a result, damage is often caused by treading, and plants are sometimes illegally removed.
