The Jägerhölzle is a nature reserve near Rudersberg in the Rems-Murr district . It primarily serves to maintain species-rich plant communities that are rare in the Keuper Hills . The area was placed under protection by ordinance of the Stuttgart Regional Council of June 26, 1975 and expanded to its present size by ordinance of December 1, 1983.

Geography and history of use

The Jägerhölzle is located on a mountain spur on the edge of the Welzheimer Forest , which slopes down towards the Wieslauftal . The Rudersberg district of Zumhof is about 500 meters to the west , while Rudersberg itself is 2.5 km to the west. Protected is an area of 2.7 hectares, the 420- to 460  m above sea level. NHN height extends. The area belongs to the natural area Schurwald and Welzheimer Wald . The little-used Zumhof – Edelmannshof connecting road touches the nature reserve, and the main hiking trail 10 of the Swabian Alb Association also leads past Jägerhölzle.

The geological subsoil is determined by the parlor sandstone with marly intermediate layers that form heavy, clayey and changeable soils. The resulting unbalanced water balance in the soil favored the settlement of the reed pipe grass , with which vintners tied their vines until the 1950s . The excavated Keuper marl was used as fertilizer in the vineyards; the area is now heavily structured thanks to the pits left behind. The area was also grazed with sheep, as can be seen from individual juniper bushes .

flora

The nature reserve presents itself in the middle slope area of the marl-like soils as a light, weakly growing pine forest with pipe grass and is thus very clearly separated from the adjacent mixed forest . The area offers good living conditions for numerous rare plants. Spring gentian , fringed gentian , German gentian and various orchids grow here . In the upper, drier slope area you can find heather , winged gorse , bristle grass and mountain pea on the sandy house sandstone subsoil .

Maintenance measures

Without care, the nature and biodiversity of the protected area were quickly lost. That is why the Albverein and the maintenance team of the regional council regularly clear up emerging wood and mow the pipe grass.
