The Kappelberg nature reserve is located in the Baden-Württemberg town of Fellbach in the Rems-Murr district .

location

The protected area is a narrow strip on the western and southern slopes of the Kappelberg directly above the vineyards. It has always served as a demarcation to the adjacent forest and is intended to prevent the vineyards from shading. It lies on the border between the natural areas 123- Neckar basin and 105- Stuttgart Bay within the natural spatial main unit 12- Gäuplatten in Neckar and Tauberland and 10- Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land .

The area is enclosed by the approximately 1,904 hectare landscape protection area No. 1.19.015- Kappelberg, Kernen, Haldenbach-, Strümpfelbach- and Beutelsbachtal with adjacent heights and is also part of the FFH area 7222-341 Schurwald .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the preservation of the steppe heather slope, which is unique in its floristic and faunistic biodiversity for the Stuttgart area. The area includes lawns of great floristic interest, wooded areas, orchards and allotments.
