The Schmalenberg nature reserve is located in the area of ​​the municipalities of Kaisersbach and Rudersberg and the city of Welzheim in the Rems-Murr district in Baden-Württemberg .

The area extends north-west of the core town of Welzheim, directly east of the 42.0 hectare nature reserve Wieslaufschlucht and Edenbachschlucht . The state road L 1080 runs along the western edge and the L 1150 to the east. Not far to the west, the Wieslauf flows , while the 42.6 hectare nature reserve Strümpfelbachtal extends to the north .

For Kaisersbach, Rudersberg and Welzheim, a 32.4 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve since December 23, 1975 under the identification number 1.058.
