Hirschäcker is the name of a nature reserve in Winterbach ( Rems-Murr-Kreis , Baden-Württemberg ). The protection purpose is the preservation of "an extensively used, landscape-typical orchard with wet areas, species-rich meadows, the adjacent forest eaves [...] and a natural stream blade".

Size, location and geological situation

The hillside area covers an area of 14.5 hectares and is located southwest of the Winterbach development, below the Engelberg district . The Mönchsklingenbach flows through the area from southwest to northeast and forms a deep cut. Geologically, the area stretches from the Stubensandstein , over the Upper Colorful Marl , the Kieselsandstein to the Lower Colorful Marl . Several source outlets have caused minor landslides.

Usage history

The areas originally belonged to the Engelberger Schlossgut and were used as arable land, orchards or hop gardens. Dairy and young cattle also grazed here. For more than two decades until the mid-1980s, the Hirschäcker served as sheep pasture.
