The Rehfeldsee is a body of water in Schorndorf ( Rems-Murr-Kreis , Baden-Württemberg ) and the name of a nature reserve that encompasses the lake and its surroundings . The purpose of the protection is the "preservation and protection of the Rehfeldsee including the adjacent wet, ruderal and woody areas as a habitat" for moisture-loving plants and animals. The area was placed under protection by ordinance of the Stuttgart Regional Council of December 20, 1990.
Geography and history of use
The Rehfeldsee is located southwest of the Schorndorf town center near the hamlet of Weiler in the vicinity of heavily used leisure facilities (club grounds , Oskar Frech SeeBad , tennis facilities).
The layers of gypsum keuper here are covered by loess clay that was mined here by the Schorndorf brickworks between 1946 and 1974. The resulting pit filled with water. Due to the not too long ago use, the site conditions are still changing relatively strongly, which is why flora and fauna are very dynamic.
Flora and fauna
Despite its small size of 6.5 hectares, of which around 1.4 hectares are covered by the lake, the area has a variety of biotope types: water areas with steep banks and shallow water areas, reeds, floating leaf areas, islands overgrown with willows and wet meadows with small ponds on which orchids grow. In the south of the site there is a demolition edge up to ten meters high.
The nature reserve is home to numerous amphibians , reptiles and insects . Almost 150 bird species have been identified as breeding birds and the like. a. Reed warbler , water rail and reed bunting .
Maintenance measures
Without care, the nature and biodiversity of the protected area were quickly lost. The local Nabu group therefore regularly removes emerging trees and mows the meadows.
