In the middle of the 15th century the manor and village were owned by the von Rechenberg family . In 1478 they were mentioned as part of Barbara von Rechenberg's personal treasure. Her marriage to Kaspar von Schönberg transferred the manor and village into family ownership.

August Schumann mentions Börnichen in the State, Post and Newspaper Lexicon of Saxony in 1814 concerning a. a .:

“Here is an old manor house with a considerable sheep farm, a beautiful castle and a large garden with tasteful grounds and many foreign plants. The village has 9 farmers, 3  gardeners and 16  cottagers .
The villages of Hartha bei Memmendorf, Memmendorf itself, Schönerstadt and all in all 1111 inhabitants belong to the knight's estate. "

Concerning the manor and castle, Albert Schiffner added in 1827 a. a .:

“The manor has belonged to those of Schönberg since at least 1486 ; then Kasp had it. v. Sch. on Sachsenburg already with all today's accessories, […]. Separated from Sachsenburg, Börnichen first owned Moriz v. Schönberg on Oberschöna , whose son Haubold died here in 1632. His heir and nephew Joh. Georg also acquired Wingendorf with Hainichen through inheritance and Oberschöna through purchase. The current owner, Mr. Major Karl Friedrich v. Schönberg, [...], not only expanded the English grounds at the castle, but also at their wetl. At the end an open pavilion was built, […]. The castle was completed in 1745; an outbuilding carries the tower with bell for morning u. Abdenläuten. Northeast are on the manor Grund u. Floor the hunter's house, a blacksmith's shop, a 3rd house, and the sheep farm; even further in O, at Hohenlinder Wasser a little manorial. Mahl- and Bret-Mill; finally in the greatest distance […] the chews of Johannes Erbstolln, who belongs to the Freiberg Mining Authority. The estate also has an inheritance burial and a large prayer room in the Oderan church (because Börnichen is parish there)

In addition, a fish farm comprising 14 ponds was part of the estate economy. The jurisdiction of the manor owner lasted until the 1840s.

After the First World War, the castle's premises served a wide variety of purposes. On April 11, 1925, the “Higher Technical College Oederan” opened, and on June 20, 1933, a steel helmets labor camp was set up. From June 28 to July 9, 1936, Department 3/160 “Heinrich Gutsche” of the Reich Labor Service was briefly stationed here.

In the course of the land reform after the Second World War, 38 new farmer jobs were created. In this context, 15 new farmsteads with 7 to 8 hectares of land each were built in former farm buildings and from demolition material from the manor house. The economic structure of the place was determined in GDR times by the LPG "Neues Deutschland", the agricultural land was cultivated by the KAP Oederan.
