The mayor Gelsdorf was one of the original seven Prussian mayors , in which the formed 1816, Kreis Ahrweiler in Koblenz divided administratively. From 1822 on, the Koblenz administrative district and thus the Gelsdorf mayor was part of the Rhine province . The administration of the mayor's office in Gelsdorf was subject to twelve communities. From 1863 the seat of the mayor's office was in the village of Ringen. In 1927 the mayor's office in Gelsdorf was renamed to Amt Gelsdorf and in 1936 to Amt Ringen .

Mayor's office Gelsdorf

Based on the resolutions at the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the Rhineland was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia . Under the Prussian administration, administrative districts , districts and mayor's offices as well as associated communities were formed in 1816 . The mayor Gelsdorf belonged to the district Ahrweiler in the administrative district of Coblenz , her first included only the communities Eckendorf, Gelsdorf, Holzweiler and Vettel Hoven on. In 1818 the mayor offices of Ringen and Heimersheim were dissolved, and the communities belonging to it were divided between the mayor offices of Ahrweiler and Gelsdorf. Gelsdorf received the municipalities of Karweiler, Lantershofen and Ringen from Ringen and the municipalities of Bengen, Birresdorf, Leimersdorf and Nierendorf from Heimersheim. The resulting Amt Gelsdorf was renamed Amt Ringen in 1936 and existed until the formation of the Verbandsgemeinde Ringen in 1968. With the exception of Kalenborn, today's association-free community Grafschaft emerged from the communities of the former mayor on March 16, 1974 .

In 1816 a total of 3712 inhabitants were counted in the associated municipalities, in 1828 there were 4244 inhabitants, including 2013 male and 2231 female; 4199 inhabitants belonged to the Catholic, 2 to the Protestant and 43 to the Jewish faith.

In the administrative area of ​​the mayor's office Gelsdorf a total of 4811 inhabitants lived in 1010 households; 2,434 of the residents were male and 2,377 were female. Regarding religious affiliation, 4,790 were Catholic and one Protestant (in Gelsdorf); 18 of the 20 Jews were resident in Gelsdorf.

In 1885 the total area of ​​the twelve associated municipalities was 6,185 hectares , of which 3,769 hectares were arable land, 339 hectares of meadows and 1,561 hectares of forest.
