chapel

St. Hubertus

The Hubertuskapelle is the landmark of Birresdorf with a "moving" history. The chapel was consecrated on May 25, 1671 after a long construction period. The people of Birresdorf chose St. Hubertus as the chapel patron . In the interior, the Hubertus hunt is depicted on a crossbeam above the altar - also referred to as a “gem of peasant art”.

With the strong increase in motorization from the middle of the 20th century, the chapel became a traffic obstacle and its demolition and new construction were discussed. However, after a plot of land near the location of the chapel would become free within the next few years, the idea of moving the chapel came up in 1977. This project was implemented in 1982. On April 23, the chapel was initially moved about six meters to the south. On April 26th there was a turn of 90 degrees and it was dragged a few meters to the west to its current location.
