Nierendorf is a local district of the community -free municipality Grafschaft in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Ahrweiler . The local district of Nierendorf currently has 836 inhabitants. Until it was incorporated into the newly formed municipality of Grafschaft in 1974, Nierendorf was an independent municipality. The Rischmühle and Herrensteiner Mathildenhof residential areas also belong to Nierendorf .

geography

Nierendorf is located on the left bank of the Rhine near the Ahr valley . The main road through the village is state road 80. The A 61 runs between Nierendorf and the neighboring town of Bengen . The eastern part of the district is hilly pastureland, orchards and mixed forest, in the west is the agricultural area behind a former embankment . Coronation Street passed south of the village .

history

Nierendorf was already settled in Roman times. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1117, when the citizens of Remagen donated money and a vineyard to the newly founded provost office on the mountain near Remagen . At that time the place was called Nithirindorp . In 1666 it had 75 inhabitants. Nierendorf belonged to the Landskron rule until the French occupation around 1800 . 1724 a school was built, as since the 1970s town house is used. The rectory was rebuilt in 1890. An aqueduct has existed in Nierendorf since 1957. On March 16, 1974, the previously independent municipality of Nierendorf was incorporated into the municipality of Grafschaft by the Verbandsgemeinde Ringen .

Surname

Several centuries ago the houses in this village were very scattered. “It will never be a village” (never-a-village), people said. In reality the name is simply lower village (nithiri = lower ).

church

Nierendorf was never an independent parish , although it had a priest for 64 years. The branch church was rebuilt in 1898/1899 by the architect Anton Becker, who was born in Lüftelberg . The place belongs to the Catholic parish of Leimersdorf and Ringen .

Nierendorf is one of eleven local districts in the county of Grafschaft. It is represented by a local council and a local mayor .

Mayor

Josef Braun ( CDU ) became mayor of Nierendorf in 2009. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for a further five years with a share of 65.82% of the votes.

Braun's predecessors were Matthias Werner ( SPD ), who died on March 11, 2009, and Günter Bach until 2004.

Culture and sights

North of Nierendorf is the Frankensiedlung Nithrindorp , a building project to reconstruct an early medieval Frankish settlement.
