Brij Mohan Vyas
Brij Mohan Vyas (mostly as BM Vyas ; Hindi : बृज मोहन व्यास Bṛj Mohan Vyās ; born October 22, 1920 in Churu , Bikaner ( Rajasthan ); † March 11, 2013 in Kalyan , Maharashtra ) was an Indian actor .
Life
The self-taught Brij Mohan Vyas came to Bombay in the early 1940s through his older brother, the author and songwriter Bharat Vyas (1918–1982), and was a singer and actor in his Rajasthani play Ramu Chanana . The film composer Ghulam Mohammed noticed his talent for singing and recommended him to Naushad . Vyas was playback singer in the films Pehle Aap ( Abdul Rashid Kardar , 1944) under the film composer Naushad, Bhartrahari ( Chaturbhuj Doshi , 1944) under Khemchand Prakash and Maharana Pratap ( Jayant Desai , 1946) under Ram Ganguly .
In 1944 he was engaged as a stage singer at Prithviraj Kapoor's Prithvi Theater , where his talent for recitation was quickly discovered and he was employed as an actor. Vyas was associated until 1955 with the theater group and entered into numerous pieces such as that of Indian Raj Anand written Deewar (1945) and Gaddar (1948), Pathan (1947), Ahooti and that of (1949) Ramanand Sagar written Kalakar (1952) on Tours through India's cities.
Through Ramesh Saigal , who like many actors at the Prithvi Theater was linked to the left-wing political movement of the Indian People's Theater Association , Vyas got a small role as the older brother of the protagonist in Chetan Anand's IPTA production Neecha Nagar (1946) - his first appearance as Film actor. He then played in several films by Raj Kapoor , including the father of the actress Nargis in Barsaat (1949). Because of his tall stature and gesture, Vyas was cast for the roles of older people early on in his career. He played the Abu Hassan in Homi Wadia's film adaptation of Alibaba and the Fort Thieves from 1954, in Do Aankhen Barah Haath (1957) he played a prisoner in a shared scene with the acting director of the film V. Shantaram . In the 1960s and 1970s, Vyas appeared in supporting roles in numerous religious films. One of the most famous is his role as Ravana in Babubhai Mistris Sampoorna Ramayan (1961). He had his last film appearance in 1995 in Ketan Mehta's Shahrukh Khan vehicle Oh Darling Yeh Hai India .
