The FV Blau-Weiß Stahl Freital was a football club in the Saxon industrial city of Freital .

Sport in the shadow of Dresden

Although Freital has almost 40,000 inhabitants and was a district town for a long time, top-class sport could never develop there, the metropolis of Dresden with its large sports clubs is too close . During the GDR era, the major Dresden sports facilities such as the Heinz Steyer Stadium and the Rudolf Harbig Stadium were accessible from Freital by tram . So it was easy for talented athletes to make a career at SC Einheit or Dynamo Dresden . Nevertheless, there were also sports clubs and sports communities in Freital, but their level of awareness and success reports generally did not extend beyond the local region. Exceptions were the judoka of BSG Wismut, who won the all-German team championship in 1954, and the soccer team of BSG Stahl Freital, which attracted national attention from 1953 to 1955 and 1962/63.

In East Germany, sport had to be completely reorganized after the Second World War, as all sporting clubs had been banned under Directive No. 23 of the Allied Control Council of the Occupying Powers. Initially, only loosely organized sports communities were allowed to hold sports competitions at the district level. In 1946, a soccer team called SG Einheit Freital-Ost began in Freital to take part in the games of the Dresden district class. In the 1948/49 season the team was only run under SG Freital-Ost. After the system of company sports associations was introduced in 1949/50, the “8. Mai 1945 ” on January 10, 1949, the company sports association (BSG) Stahl Freital was founded. In 1952 it was one of the founding communities of the newly established third-class district league Dresden .

In the very first season the BSG Stahl won the district championship and qualified with a 2nd place in the promotion round for the GDR league . In the tough competition with teams such as the ex-Oberligisten Wismut Gera , Turbine Weimar , Motor Oberschöneweide and Motor Altenburg , the 12th place and thus relegation was definitely a success. Up to 5000 spectators came to the top games on the Freital sports field "Am Burgwartsberg". In the following season 1954/55 at least a 5th place had to be achieved for relegation, as the GDR league was reduced from three to one season. Freital only landed in 6th place and had to relegate to the 2nd GDR league, which has now been established as the 3rd division . There the team was passed through to the district league within one season. After immediate promotion and one more year in the II. GDR league in 1958, the team remained in the district league from 1959 to 1986, then another relegation led to the district class. After rising again in 1988, Stahl Freital remained in the district league until the end of the GDR football operation in 1990.

In 1962, the BSG Stahl won the district soccer cup after three finals against Turbine Grossenhain (5: 5, 0: 0 and 8: 4) and thus qualified for the GDR Cup competition in 1962/63. The Freitaler made it to the second round, but lost there at home to the second division Motor West Karl-Marx-Stadt with 1: 2.

Football club blue and white steel

After the political change in 1989 , the steelworks no longer supported the BSG and new structures had to be found. Instead of the soccer section of BSG Stahl, the soccer club Blau-Weiß Stahl Freital was founded. The first men's team started in the 1991/92 season in the Dresden district league, which was fifth at the time, but had to be relegated to the district class as 12th and third from bottom. After that there was a constant back and forth between the district class and the district league, before a safe place in the district league could be held from 2002. With the introduction of the single-track 3rd division in the 2008/09 season, the club played in the 7th German division. In the Sachsenpokal 2018/19 the club made it to the round of 16, before it was knocked out against FSV Budissa Bautzen ( Regionalliga Nordost ) with 1: 7.

On July 1, 2020, FV Blau-Weiß Stahl Freital and SG Motor Freital merged into Hainsberger SV, which was renamed Sportclub Freital. The first men's team in the football department of Hainsberger SV had previously been promoted to the Sachsenliga .
