Bacoor (officially: Municipality of Bacoor ; Filipino : Bayan ng Bakoor ) is a Filipino municipality in the province of Cavite .

It has 600,609 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census). After Dasmariñas, Bacoor has the second highest population and the highest density in the province of Cavite.

geography

Bacoor is on the southeast coast of Manila Bay in northwest Cavite Province. In the east, Las Piñas City and Muntinlupa City in the metropolitan area of Metro Manila border on Bacoor. Dasmariñas borders on Bacoor to the south and Kawit to the west , both in the province of Cavite. Las Piñas is separated from Bacoor by the Zapote River .

Bacoor's location southwest of Metro Manila makes it an important “gateway” to the metropolitan area of Metro Manila. This importance is particularly reinforced by the location of the southern end of the Manila-Cavite Expressway in the area of the township.

economy

Bacoor has developed from an agriculturally dominated region into an economic center. Trade and the service sector play the most important role. The fishing and fish processing have suffered heavy losses in recent years as a result of pollution, the yield has fallen sharply in fishing. The industrial sector currently only plays a subordinate role. There are, however, projects for industrial development, such as establishing companies in the cotton industry in Bacoor.

Religions

Catholicism is the dominant religion in Bacoor, mainly due to immigration from Metro Manila . The long-established residents of Bacoro are predominantly members of the Aglipaya Church . Aglipaya Church has a long and varied history in Bacoor. The Aglipayan Church in Bacoor was one of the first Catholic communities in the Philippines to join the new movement. The Catholic priest Fortunato Clemena became the first priest and first bishop of the Aglipayan Church of Cavite during the schism . Most of the first members were Katipuneros, led by General Mariano Noriel.

A Muslim minority belonging to the Moros and Bajau ethnic groups live in the Zapote region, where there are also a few mosques .
