Bad Azz (born November 27, 1975 in Hawaiian Gardens , California as Jamarr Antonio Stamps , † November 11, 2019 in Wildomar , California) was an American rapper of West Coast hip-hop and gangsta rap styles .

Life

Bad Azz grew up in Long Beach and began rapping at house parties there. Finally, in the early 1990s, he met Snoop Dogg , who brought him to his label Doggystyle Records, then a subcontractor of Death Row Records , and founded the group The LBC Crew, which in addition to Bad Azz also includes the rappers Lil C-Style and Techniec belonged to. The trio took the album Have not You Heard ... in which Snoop Dogg produced was. However, due to the breakup of Death Row Records and disputes over royalties , the release was canceled. It didn't finally appear until 2011.

After these events Bad Azz switched to Priority Records , with whose support he released his debut album Word on Tha Streets in 1998 . The work just barely reached the Billboard 200 , but could only last a week. The most successful single was We Be Puttin It Down! featuring Snoop Dogg, who reached # 8 in Billboard Magazine's Hot Rap Singles chart , but didn't make it into the Hot 100 .

As a result, he mainly appeared on the albums of other rappers. Among other things, he composed for Snoop Dogg's album No Limit Top Dogg , rapped on EBK4 by Brotha Lynch Hung and on the debut of Eastsidaz . He was also involved in the song Wrong Idea , along with Snoop Dogg, Kokane and Lil ½ Dead , which was featured on Tha Last Meal and Bad Azz's second album Personal Business . Even Wrong Idea had with number 75 on the Billboard charts Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks a certain genre-specific success, but could not get the mainstream reach. Nevertheless, the album, which was released by Doggystyle Records and distributed by Priority Records, reached number 59 on the US album charts.

Two further publications followed in 2003. First came Money Run , which was only listed in Billboard's R&B Albums list. Executive Decision followed a few months , which no longer appeared in any sales lists.

Bad Azz remained active afterwards, but initially did not bring out any music under its own name, but was a guest artist on songs by other musicians. For example, between 2003 and 2009 he appeared on albums by Paris , Spice 1 , Celly Cel and Tha Dogg Pound . In 2009 he joined forces with Bizzy Bone and recorded another album under the common name Thug Pound. Subsequently, new singles and occasional albums appeared regularly, which, however, largely went unnoticed.

He died on November 11, 2019, aged 43, at the Southwest Detention Center in Wildomar , California , where he was serving a prison sentence for domestic violence . The cause of death has not yet been announced.
