The Gundelfingen (Breisgau) train station is located in the municipality of Gundelfingen im Breisgau , six kilometers north of Freiburg in Baden-Württemberg . It is located on the main route Mannheim – Karlsruhe – Freiburg – Basel (Rheintalbahn). The Freiburg bypass , which is reserved for freight traffic , branches off south of the stop . It is served by trains of the Breisgau S-Bahn and DB Regio and has two platform tracks on one side platform each. The station belongs to station category 5. According to the railway building and operating regulations, Gundelfingen station is no longer a station, but a stop .

history

The history of Gundelfingen station began with the commissioning of the Offenburg - Freiburg Hbf section of the Rhine Valley Railway from Mannheim via Karlsruhe to Basel on July 30, 1845 .

In order to relieve the Freiburg main station, the freight bypass line branching off in Gundelfingen was inaugurated on September 4, 1905.

In 1955, the entire route of the Rhine Valley Railway and with it the Gundelfingen station was electrified .

Around 100 trains from DB Regio and the Breisgau S-Bahn stop in Gundelfingen every day . There are direct connections to Basel , Freiburg im Breisgau , Offenburg , Karlsruhe , Waldkirch and Elzach . The community belongs to the Regio-Verkehrsverbund Freiburg (RVF).

No long-distance trains stop in Gundelfingen . The next station served by long-distance traffic is Freiburg (Breisgau) Hauptbahnhof .

Local transport

As planned, Gundelfingen is served almost exclusively by line S2 (Freiburg Hbf - Gundelfingen - Denzlingen - Waldkirch - Elzach), which is served by SWEG in the Breisgau S-Bahn network, every 30 to 60 minutes.

Occasionally, the Regional Express trains between Offenburg and Basel and the regional trains between Basel or Neuchâtel to Offenburg and sometimes further to Karlsruhe also stop in Gundelfingen .

Freight transport

The Gundelfingen junction connects directly to the south of the breakpoint . There the partly dense north-south freight traffic is routed to the Freiburg freight bypass .

Bus transport

Bus routes 15, 16 (both Gundelfingen – Wildtal – Zähringen – Freiburg) and bus route 24 (Gundelfingen – Freiburg industrial area north) run from Gundelfingen train station. These are operated by the Freiburger Verkehrs AG . Regional buses offered by Südbadenbus run into the surrounding area .

future

A few meters of the tram - Wendeschleife Gundelfinger Straße are in the Gundelfinger district. In the long term, an extension of the tram route ending on the southern outskirts to Gundelfingen train station is planned to enable a link between the S-Bahn , tram and bus. At the same time, it is planned to relocate Gundelfingen station a few 100 meters to the north. This should be realized from 2018 [out of date] at the earliest .
