- Berlin / Germany : Federal Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt obliges the Volkswagen subsidiary Audi to completely recall around 25,000 diesel vehicles with Euro 5 emissions standards built between 2009 and 2013 due to an illegal software-controlled disconnection device and calls for a conversion concept by June 12. On March 15, 2017, during Audi's annual press conference, more than 100 police officers and public prosecutors searched the vehicle manufacturer's headquarters in Ingolstadt and other locations and employees' homes.
- Berlin / Germany : With 455 votes in favor, 87 against and 61 abstentions, the German Bundestag adopts the draft law introduced by the federal government to reorganize federal-state financial relations with the amendment of Basic Law Articles 90, 91c, 104b, 104c, 107, 108, 109a, 114, 125c, 143d to 143g with a two-thirds majority. The federal-state financial reform provides that the federal states will receive around 10 billion euros annually from the federal government from 2020 onwards and in return the federal government will have more powers and control options. This provides for a relaxation of the prohibition of cooperation between the federal government and the federal states in education finances and the establishment of a federal motorway company , especially for the federal motorways . In addition, the Bundestag resolved to abolish Section 103 ( libel of majesty ) of the Criminal Code and ratified the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention).

- Munich / Germany : The Linde AG Supervisory Board approves the merger and the Business Combination Agreement (BCA) with the US gas company Praxair from Danbury . After the merger, the new holding company will be named Linde plc. based in Ireland and have the operational central functions in Great Britain.
- Mojave Air & Space Port / United States : The private American space company Stratolaunch Systems provides the world's largest aircraft with the Stratolaunch with a wingspan of 117 meters, 72 meters in length, a 50-meter-high tail, a landing gear with 28 wheels and 229 tons of curb weight in front.
- Washington, DC / United States : US President Donald Trump announces the withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, which came into force on November 4, 2016 .

- Copenhagen / Denmark : The Danish Parliament abolishes Section 140 of the Criminal Code, which has existed since 1866, and with it the prosecution for blasphemy .
- Mora / Cameroon : In two suicide attacks by alleged fighters of the Islamist Boko Haram in front of a refugee camp in Kolofata around 10 km from the border with Nigeria , at least 11 people are killed and 30 others are injured.
- Pasay City / Philippines : An attacker armed with a rapid-fire rifle stormed into the casino at the World Manila resort and set several tables on fire. At least 36 people including the perpetrator died and another 70 were injured as a result of the fire and heavy smoke.
- Washington, DC / United States : At the United Nations Ocean Conference, participants warn of ocean acidification. The conference will focus on the goals set out in point 14 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development .

- Kennedy Space Center / United States : As part of the CRS program of the US space company SpaceX , the CRS-11 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) is successfully launched . For the first time, a Dragon spaceship was used again, which was already in orbit as mission CRS-4 in September 2014.

- Orlando / USA : Five people are killed in a shooting on the grounds of the Fiamma motorhome parts company in Orlando. The perpetrator, John Robert Neumann Jr., subsequently kills himself. There is no evidence of terrorism or any kind of organized crime. The police believe they are dealing with a case of violence at work.

- Brussels / Belgium : Montenegro officially becomes the 29th member of NATO , the southern border of the defense alliance thus extends from Portugal to the Turkish-Syrian border.
- Bahrain , Saudi Arabia , the United Arab Emirates and Egypt surprisingly isolate their neighboring country Qatar : The borders are closed, diplomats withdrawn and air and ship connections are suspended. Qatar is said to have supported various Islamist terror groups . A similar measure was taken in 2014.
- New York / USA : First UN ocean conference to protect the world's oceans begins and runs until June 9, 2017

- Izmir / Turkey : The Secretary General of Amnesty International , Salil Shetty , the arrest of shares of a lawyer and head of the Turkey-section of Amnesty, Taner Kılıç and 22 lawyers in the province of Izmir with. The security forces also ransacked Amnesty's office and Kılıç home.
- Karlsruhe / Germany : The German Federal Constitutional Court declares the nuclear fuel tax levied by nuclear power plant operators between 2011 and 2016 to be unconstitutional. This leads to a shortfall totaling 25 billion euros.

His whereabouts are unknown. An arrest warrant against Saif al-Islam Gaddafi for crimes against humanity , issued by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, has existed since 2011 .
- Kiev / Ukraine : The visa-free entry for Ukrainians to the European Union (EU) decided by the EU Parliament in April 2017 comes into force. However, a biometric passport is required . Around 600 Ukrainians use this freedom of travel in the first few hours.
- Paris / France : First round of parliamentary elections
- Pristina / Kosovo : parliamentary election
- San Juan / Puerto Rico : With 97 percent approval, the residents of Puerto Rico voted in a referendum to want to become the 51st state of the United States .
