The Laupheim West train station is, along with the Laupheim Stadt train station, one of two operating train stations in the Baden-Württemberg district town of Laupheim in the Biberach district . He is on the 1847 opened Wuerttemberg Southern Railway Ulm - Biberach - Aulendorf - Ravensburg - Friedrichshafen and is the starting point of the earlier to Schwendi leading branch line Laupheim Laupheim West town .

Surname

When the southern line opened, Laupheim West station was the only station in Laupheim. Therefore the station was initially only called Laupheim . After the railway line to Schwendi opened in 1904, the Laupheim Stadt station was built in the center of Laupheim. In this context, the Laupheim station was named Laupheim Hbf . Since May 1939 it has been called Laupheim West .

In addition, the term Westbahnhof is also used .

location

Laupheim West train station is located two kilometers from the city center on the outskirts of Laupheim.

history

On June 1, 1850, the Royal Württemberg State Railways opened the Württemberg Southern Railway from Ulm via Aulendorf to Friedrichshafen , which, however, passed two kilometers from Laupheim on the outskirts. Despite the remote location of the railway line to the city, a Laupheim station was built on it. The station building and the station restaurant were completed in 1849.

On May 17, 1904, a branch line branching off from the southern line via Laupheim to Schwendi at Laupheim station was opened, on which the Laupheim Stadt station (city station) was built in the center of Laupheim . The old Laupheim station thus became a separation station .

Between November 1941 and August 1942, 81 people of Jewish faith were deported from Laupheim in four transports to concentration and extermination camps.

On 23 May 1971, on the section from Laupheim city after Schwendi the passenger set. On September 28, 1984, goods traffic followed on the same route. The line was then shut down and dismantled. On May 27, 1983, passenger traffic on the section between the West and Stadtbahnhof also ended.

In 1974 the station restaurant was closed and its building demolished in 1997.

On May 30, 1999, passenger traffic on the branch line to the completely renovated city station was put back into operation and an hourly regional train connection from and to Ulm Central Station was set up.

In July 2008, the district of Biberach and Deutsche Bahn AG also decided to build an approximately 400 meter long connecting curve from the southern railway (Biberach side) to the existing line from Laupheim West to Laupheim Stadt at Laupheim West station. This made direct connections from Biberach via Laupheim Stadt to Ulm possible. Construction work on this began in June 2009 and was completed two years later. Operation began on June 12, 2011. In the course of this expansion, the entire signaling system at Laupheim West train station was modernized.

Track systems

Laupheim West station, 2020

Laupheim West station consists of a total of three station sections, two of which have platform tracks.

  • The main part of the station is the station part of the southern line with three tracks, a house platform and an island platform . Track 1 is used for trains in the direction of Ulm, track 2 for those in the direction of Friedrichshafen. Track 3 is occasionally used as a sideline .
  • To the northeast of the station is the station part of the branch line to Laupheim West with one track and one platform. This track, known as track 6 (formerly track 20 ), is used by the trains that run via Laupheim Stadt in both directions.
  • The third part of the station (“Südkurve Laupheim”) is located in the southeastern part of the Laupheim West station and consists of the single-track line with the branches from both lines. The south curve has been in operation since June 2011 and is used by the regional railways that operate via Laupheim Stadt.

Except for a siding on track 3 , all side tracks have been removed. Freight transport facilities are no longer available.

The station forecourt forms the transition between the rails 1-3 and the platform to platform 6. In addition to this is a large P + R - parking available.

Reception building

In the reception building of the Westbahnhof there is a waiting room for travelers as well as free public toilets .

traffic

Laupheim West station is part of the Donau-Iller local transport network (DING) and corresponds to station category 5 of DB Station & Service AG .

Regional traffic

Only local rail passenger transport trains stop at Laupheim West station . Regional trains on the Ulm –Laupheim West – Laupheim city – Biberach (Riss) route stop every hour . Additional regional trains Ulm – Biberach (Riß) - Aulendorf are used during the working day rush hour , but they save the change of direction in Laupheim City and run directly on the southern line. This creates a half-hourly service on the Ulm – Biberach (Riß) route.

In addition to the regional trains, there are hourly regional express trains from Stuttgart via Ulm and Friedrichshafen Stadt to Lindau .

In addition, individual Regional Express trains run between Ulm and Friedrichshafen during the morning rush hour .

The only pair of intercity trains running on the Südbahn and the IRE Sprinter trains Basel Bad Bf - Ulm Hbf run through the station without stopping.

Train type route Clock frequency

Planning

There is a planning draft for the expansion of the southern section Ulm - Biberach - Aulendorf ( regional association Donau-Iller ) as part of the regional S-Bahn Donau-Iller . In particular, this requires electrification of the route.
