The Riegel-Malterdingen station (until 2011 Riegel station ) is a small connecting station in the northern district of Emmendingen in the Malterdingen district directly on the municipality border with Riegel am Kaiserstuhl . It was opened on August 1, 1845 with the section from Offenburg to Freiburg of the Rhine Valley Railway. The Kaiserstuhlbahn of the Süddeutsche Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft has been branching here to Endingen since 1894 , of which one branch in Riegel Ort on the eastern edge of the Kaiserstuhl branches off to Gottenheim , while the other has been running from Endingen in the west of the mountains to Breisach since 1895 .
Surname
Colloquially, the Riegel-Malterdingen station is usually only called DB station . Until 2011 the station was officially called Riegel . The name was changed at the request of the municipality of Malterdingen.
location
The Riegel-Malterdingen station with the station building to the west of the Rheintalbahn is 2 km from the town center and still completely within the municipality of Malterdingen , directly on the border with Riegel .
The tracks of the Kaiserstuhlbahn are to the west of the DB station on the Riegeler district, direct access to the DB station is not possible. In the northern part of the station there is a connecting track to the Rheintalbahn.
history
With the construction of the state railway line of the Badische Hauptbahn from Mannheim to Basel , whose section from Offenburg to Freiburg was opened on August 1, 1845, the municipality of Riegel received a rail connection for the first time.
Since the train station was outside the town of Riegel, the Kaiserstuhlbahn was built in 1894 via the train station in Riegel am Kaiserstuhl Ort to Endingen and a branch from Riegel Ort to Gottenheim to the Breisacher Bahn in order to better connect the town of Riegel to the railway. The remainder of Endingen - Breisach followed in 1895 , where there was a connection via the Breisach railway bridge over the Rhine to Colmar in France until 1945 .
As a private railway, the Kaiserstuhlbahn belonged to the Süddeutsche Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (SEG) for a long time and is now operated by the Südwestdeutsche Verkehrs AG (SWEG) .
In 1978 the museum steam train Rebenbummler ran from Riegel-Malterdingen for the first time , and since then it has been running annually on the Kaiserstuhlbahn from May to October.
At the beginning of September 2014, a large commuter parking lot was built on the east side of the station (district Malterdingen) for 416,000 euros, which supplemented the existing parking lot on the west side of the station (district Riegel). The municipality of Malterdingen bore the costs alone.
