Balthasar Ernst von Bohlen

Balthasar Ernst von Bohlen (born November 16, 1699 at Wusterwitz , † May 30, 1789 at Gut Lerchenborn ) was a Prussian colonel and chief of Hussar Regiment No. 4 and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life

origin

His parents were Melchior Balthasar von Bohlen and his wife Johanna Eleonore, née von Oertzen. His father was the heir to Wusterwitz, Strachelwitz, Quarzendorf and Minkendorf.

Military career

Bohlen first went into Swedish service in 1716, since Rügen was part of Swedish Pomerania at the time. In 1733 he changed to Polish services with royal permission and became a lieutenant in the "King Stanislaus" dragoon regiment. He fought in the siege of Danzig , where he was taken prisoner by the Russians. After his return to Swedish service in 1736, he joined the satellite guard . In 1740 he changed to Prussian services with permission and came to the Hussar Regiment No. 1 as Rittmeister . There Bohlen became major on October 4, 1741 and lieutenant colonel on December 11, 1756 .

During the Seven Years' War he was wounded near Lobositz and Kunersdorf . He received the order Pour le Mérite for the battle near Gotha and in 1761 he got his own light corps to cover the fortress Wolfenbüttel . On October 15, 1761, he was transferred as commander to the Dragoons Regiment of the Kleist Freikorps. Shortly thereafter, on April 29, 1762, he was promoted to colonel and then transferred to the "von Dingelstädt" hussar regiment as chief . Because of his injuries from the war, he applied for his departure, which was approved in 1770 with a pension of 1200 thalers.

In 1770 Bohlen bought the Lerchenborn estate and established the village of Bohlendorf there. Until 1772 he still lived in Militsch . He made a majorate and entails out of his property . Since he was never married himself, he passed his inheritance to his cousin, Lieutenant General Philipp Christian von Bohlen , or his eldest son. The treaties were signed on October 17, 1785. Bohlen still had the right to live on the Lerchenborn estate and died there unmarried on May 30, 1789.
