Bam Bam ([ bam bamː ], spelling : BAM BAM ) is the fifth studio album by the Berlin reggae / dancehall group Seeed . It was released on October 4, 2019, following the announcement two months earlier. The album ends another long creative break of seven years (or five years since the last single Cherry Oh ) after the previous album Seeed was created after a seven-year break. It is also the first album without lead singer Demba Nabé , who passed away unexpectedly in May 2018, and the first completely German-language album (with the exception of the last song "What a Day").

music

As with "Seeed" (2012), with "Bam Bam" the band developed further away from the dominant reggae / dancehall style of the first three albums. The comparatively melancholy tone that pervades almost the entire album is characteristic, for example in "Ticket" (as a homage to the deceased Nabé) and "Come to my house", which celebrates the welcoming culture; the latter uses the same text from an old live intro in the chorus (including at Lollapalooza 2015 in Berlin ).

Deichkind , Trettmann , Nura and Salsa 359 are represented in one song each with a featuring and give the album a strong focus on German rap ; Influences of the trap are prominently represented. The characteristic brass sound was largely muffled in the sound production ; Exceptions are besides "Ticket" and "Let them go" the confident "No More Drama", in which a kind of " optimistic imperative " finally asserts itself .

The last track "What a Day" is a new version of a demo recording by Nabé, classically orchestrated as a power ballad and, in addition to the opening "Ticket", pays homage to the deceased co-frontman.

trip

In autumn 2019 the band went on tour in all German-speaking countries, the last official tour concert took place on November 27th in the Olympiahalle in Munich.

Before that, on October 1st and 2nd, two spontaneously announced warm-up concerts took place in the Festsaal Kreuzberg . There was also a spontaneous concert at the Fridays for Future demonstration in Berlin on November 30, 2019.

To compensate for the loss of Nabé, Seeed is accompanied by two background singers. Nosliw is one of the two and has a solo part in the song Waterpumpee , in which he sings his song Nur , which is also sung on the Doctor's Darling Riddim. The second background singer is Salsa 359 , who appeared on the album with Love & Courvoisier as a guest singer and as co-songwriter on other songs.

Instead of Cold Steel , the dance group 1st Cut Urban Dance Team and their choreographer P-Soul appear at the song Ding as a further show element ; P-Soul is also part of the third background singer. The Fedz, Doctor Krápula , Nura and Ricky Dietz appear as supporting acts .

Further open-air concerts , including at the Hurricane Festival (or Southside Festival ), the Wuhlheide and the Waldbühne are planned for summer 2020.

Singles

ticket

The first single was Ticket and was released along with a music video on April 18, 2019. The shooting took place in Marrakech ( Morocco ), directed by Zoran Bihać . Thematically, the unusually melancholy song is about farewell and a new beginning. The band members themselves cannot be seen; At the end there is a dedication to the late lead singer Demba Nabé.

Let her go

Let them go was released on July 26, 2019 as the second single on the album. Again it was directed by Zoran Bihać. The song, in the classic roots reggae style, is about a man who mourns his girlfriend, who has just been abandoned, and is asked to let go. The accompanying music video is an animated film in which the band ride giant rats and leave an inhospitable planet in spaceships (cf. the phrase "rats leave the sinking ship"). It follows earlier animated music videos from the band environment (e.g. Cherry Oh from Seeed or Schwarz zu Blau from Peter Fox ).

G € LD

G € LD (a play on words made up of money , gold and the  euro sign ) was released on September 20, 2019 as the third single. The song cynically denounces the importance of money as a symbol of power. Related social phenomena are examples cited: luxury real estate favored by the Swiss banking secrecy which gentrification in Harlem , the Goldsteak- Shitstorm to Franck Ribéry and the relief organization Bread for the World as a supposed conscience reassurance. The music video, directed by Jakob Grunert , was filmed at Schloss Ganz in Ganz (Kyritz) and shows the two lead singers as ruthless, overweight bon vivants who savor their unlawful wealth and are finally arrested by a special detachment.
