Banaz is a small Turkish town and capital of the district of the same name ( İlçe ) in the province of Uşak in western Turkey. The city is located 30 km east of the provincial capital Uşak and about 70 km west of Afyonkarahisar . According to the city seal, the place was raised to a municipality ( Belediye ) in 1953 .

Murat Dağı Mountain (2309 m) is located northeast of the district town . The Banaz Çayı River is one of the headwaters of the Great Meander ( Büyük Menderes ). It has its sources on the southern slopes of Murat Dağı, which also connects the regions of Banaz and Kütahya .

The county

The district is located in the northeast of the province and was created in 1953. It borders in the north on the province of Kütahya and in the east on the province of Afyonkarahisar . Another source of income is the cultivated cultivation of poplars . The climate also favors fruit growing. In recent years, livestock breeding has come more and more to the fore, with the loss of pastureland in favor of arable farming making the situation of farmers more difficult. However, the regional council is pushing ahead with projects to return the areas to pasture land. The afforestation of cleared and burned forests has also been going on for years.

traffic

The D300 ( E96 ) trunk road from İzmir to Eskişehir crosses the district and the district town . A railway line runs almost parallel to this between Uşak and Afyon .

population

Most of the population consists of Sunni Turks .

Industry

A ceramics manufacturer, which is also listed on the Turkish stock exchange, has its headquarters in Banaz, as well as a wooden element and yacht builder as well as a slaughterhouse, a noodle manufacturer and a boiler manufacturer. The knotting of carpets is a craft that has now almost died out here.
