Barnabas Anthony Peter "Bart" Latuheru (born November 8, 1965 in Capelle aan den IJssel ) is a Dutch former football player who played as a professional for Vitesse from Arnhem , AZ from Alkmaar and NEC from Nijmegen , among others . The striker also made an international match for the Dutch national team .

Club career

Latuheru, whose ancestors come from the Moluccas , began his career in his youth at CVV Zwervers in his hometown of Capelle. He moved to neighboring Rotterdam, first to Sparta , then to Xerxes and finally to SBV Excelsior , where he made his professional debut in the Eredivisie at the age of 19 . On August 18, 1985 he came on as a substitute for André Wasiman in the Woudestein stadium in the 3-2 draw against Ajax Amsterdam in the 59th minute . He established himself in the course of the season on the right attacking side and in the right midfield. He scored his first goal in the honor division in the following season on October 29, 1986 in a 1-1 draw against Roda JC . At the end of the 1986/87 season, the Rotterdam relegated to the Eerste Divisie . Latuheru stayed with Excelsior for two years in the second division before returning to Vitesse Arnheim in 1989 in the honor division.

The Arnhem team had just moved up after nine years in the second division, and thanks to Latuheru they were fourth in the UEFA Cup in the 1989/90 promotion season . In the following years Vitesse was able to establish itself with Latuheru at the top - once in fifth place and three more times in fourth place - and qualified for the UEFA Cup every season until 1994. Latuheru stayed in Arnhem until the winter break in 1995/96 to move to the second half of the season for the second division AZ to Alkmaar, with whom he was promoted to the Eredivisie and relegated one season later. After half a season in the second division, he went to the NEC in Nijmegen, who, after he had only prevented relegation twice in 1996 and 1997 in the nacompetitie , the relegation round , was able to establish himself with Latuheru in the midfield of the honor division. He stayed in Nijmegen for four and a half years before ending his professional career in 2002 after playing 492 league games in paid football. Then he still played in the amateur field; first at Delta Sport Vlaardingen , then he returned to Xerxes and finally played for Neptunus in Rotterdam.

National team

Latuheru came on December 20, 1989 against Brazil under bond coach Thijs Libregts for his only international match. The occasion of the friendly match was the 100th anniversary of the KNVB . Since many regular players like Ruud Gullit , Marco van Basten and Frank Rijkaard canceled, bond coach Thijs Libregts called some players into the squad who had no international experience. Latuheru made his debut in the starting line-up as did his Arnhem club mate Edward Sturing and Frank Berghuis from Volendamer ; Martin Laamers , who formed Vitesse's right flank with Sturing and Latuheru during this time, also made his first appearance in the Oranje jersey after the break . In contrast to the Dutch, Brazil started with the best team. Nevertheless, the Elftal was able to keep the game open for a long time under the direction of the German referee Werner Föckler ; in the 55th minute, however , Careca scored the 1-0 win for the Brazilians. For both wingers of the starting line-up alongside Wim Kieft , Berghuis and Latuheru, it was their only appearance in the senior national team.

After the active time

Latuheru is one of the few professionals of his generation who have turned their backs on football professionally. He first worked for an insurance company. Later he took over a company for trade fair construction with two partners and supplies trade fairs and congresses. "I never had the ambition to become a coach," he said in a 2010 interview. Also Scout had not come into question, "I did not do this to my son and my daughter, because I wanted to accompany their growth in the first years of life."
