The construction economics is the applied science of economic planning and execution of construction projects .

Economy means dealing with all things economically in order to achieve the best possible ratio between effort and result. Use of the term

The conceptual use of planning and building economics is relatively new. However, the attempt at economical building is as old as building itself. An optimization of the use of resources in relation to the result has always been sought. Optimizing, i.e. economizing, has a quickly measurable effect in the sense of reduced investments . In the 1970s , the term building economy appeared on its own. The development of this special, extended business administration came with the increasing importance of economic aspects of building for building owners . It was also recognized that there was and continues to be a deficit in the training of architects in this area. In Great Britain e.g. For example, through the profession of quantity surveyor, an independent group of experts is involved in the construction process with the economic and quantitative factors of buildings. In Germany, this specialist knowledge must be covered by architects and civil engineers . The construction economy is of secondary importance in the training of architects.

Principles

The construction economy follows the general guidelines and principles of general economy. But it is justified as a specialty because, on the one hand, general economics takes little notice of the area of ​​construction, and on the other hand, the construction industry has many peculiarities that need to be considered specifically. This includes the corporate structures, for example large companies alongside many small companies, the product building and how this is implemented. To make matters worse, the construction industry has a very high proportion of construction specialists as employees. Construction strangers are relatively rare.
