The building trade school Eckernförde was founded in 1868 as the municipal building trade school of the city of Eckernförde for the training of building craftsmen. Like other building trade schools, it developed into a training center for building technicians and architects until the 20th century . Graduates of the building school in Eckernförde appeared again and again through honorable mentions (e.g. by the trade journal Bauwelt ) or won competitions (e.g. Jürgen Kröger for a design for the new building of the Leipzig main station in 1907).

history

A press release from the University of Applied Sciences in Kiel in 2006 stated about the importance of the school : Soon after it was founded, the Eckernförde building trade school developed its own profile despite difficult financial circumstances and, in the first four decades, achieved a quality standard in the training of architects that was reminiscent of top performance of German architects.

The new building for the construction school on Kieler Strasse was designed by Germano Wanderley and Friedrich Faber in 1869/70 .

In 1959, a new school building was completed on Lorenz-von-Stein-Ring according to plans by Friedrich Spengelin .

Both the school building in Kieler Straße and Reeperbahn and the one in Lorenz-von-Stein-Ring are on the list of cultural monuments in Eckernförde .

Until it was closed, the school belonged to the Kiel University of Applied Sciences, department of construction. The Eckernförde location was given up in the 2007/08 winter semester, as the department was outsourced and integrated into the construction department of the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences .
