Beate Gummelt ( Helga-Beate Gummelt , née Anders ; born February 4, 1968 in Leipzig ) is a former German walker . It started for the GDR until 1990 .

At the World Championships in Rome in 1987 , she came in 16th place in the 10 km walk. In 1989, she won gold in the 3000 m walking at the European Indoor Championships in The Hague and silver at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest . In 1990 she defended her title at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow and was sixth over 10 kilometers at the European Championships in Split .

In 1991 she won over 3000 meters at the World Indoor Championships in Seville and was tenth over 10 kilometers at the World Championships in Tokyo . The following year he won a bronze medal over 3000 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Genoa .

At the Olympic premiere of the women's walk in Barcelona in 1992 , she took 16th place over the distance of 10 kilometers. In 1993 she was fourth over 3000 meters at the World Indoor Championships in Toronto and fifth over 10 kilometers at the World Championships in Stuttgart .

In 1994 in Paris , walking was part of the program of the European Indoor Championships for the last time. Beate Gummelt, as she was now called, won her fourth medal in a row with silver. In the summer she was over 10 kilometers ninth at the European Championships in Helsinki . Over the same distance she was disqualified at the 1995 World Championships in Gothenburg and tenth at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

At the 1997 World Championships in Athens, she gave up in the final over 10,000 meters of walking. With her third Olympic participation in 2000 in Sydney , in which she reached 19th place in the 20 km walk , she completed her competitive sports career.

Eight times she was German champion over 5000 meters (1991–1997, 2000) and in street walking (10 km: 1991–1997; 20 km: 1999). Before that, she had become GDR champion four times in a row (1987–1989: 10 km; 1990: 5000 m). In the hall she was three times in a row GDR champion (1988, 1989: 5000 m; 1990: 3000 m) and won eight titles over 3000 meters in the united Germany (1991-1997, 2000).

Beate Gummelt is 1.69 m and weighed 52 kg during her active time. During the GDR period she belonged to the TSC Berlin (trainer: Gerhard Heber ), later to the LAC Halensee Berlin . In November 1993 she married her colleague Bernd Gummelt . Today she lives as a teacher in Neuruppin and is a trainer at LAC Ruppin.
