Belavia Belarusian Airlines is the national Belarusian airline based in Minsk and based at the Minsk National Airport .
history
On November 7, 1933, Belarus' first airport terminal was opened in Minsk. The following spring three Po-2s were transferred to Minsk. As a subdivision of Aeroflot, these formed the first Belarusian aircraft fleet. In 1936 the first line connection between Minsk and Moscow was established. In 1973 Tupolev Tu-134A began flying in Belarus. In 1983 the Tupolev Tu-154 was integrated into Belarusian flight operations.
Belavia was officially established on March 5, 1996 when the resident division of Aeroflot was nationalized and renamed. Line connections to Beijing , Istanbul , Larnaka , London , Prague and Rome were established by 1998 . In 1998 Belavia merged with Minskavia, which led to the expansion of the fleet by some Antonow An-24 , Antonow An-26 and Jakowlew Jak-40 .
Belavia has been operating a direct connection between Minsk and Paris since May 18, 2001 . Belavia has been publishing an on-board magazine in English, Russian and Belarusian since 2003. On October 16, 2003, Belavia signed a lease for its first Boeing 737-500 . In 2004 the route network was expanded and another Boeing 737 was added to the fleet. On June 26, 2004 a connection to Hanover was also established.
In autumn 2012, Belavia took over two Embraer 175s on lease . In January 2015, Belavia took over a used Boeing 737-800, also on a leasing basis.
Destinations
Belavia operates a steadily growing route network between Belarus and Europe, the CIS countries and the Middle East. There are flights to Geneva , Nur-Sultan (until 2019 Astana) , Kiev , Tel Aviv , Amsterdam and London , for example . In German-speaking countries, the company serves Berlin , Frankfurt am Main , Hanover , Vienna and Munich .
Belavia also has codeshare agreements with airBaltic , Austrian Airlines , Czech Airlines , Finnair , KLM , LOT , Azerbaijan Airlines , Aeroflot , Rossija and S7 Airlines .

Incidents
- On February 14, 2008, a Belavia Bombardier CRJ100 ( aircraft registration EW-101PJ ) overturned while taking off from Yerevan Airport in the Armenian capital. All 18 passengers and 3 crew members on board survived, but some were seriously injured. The reason was that the pilots did not switch on the de-icing system for the wings .
