The Belle Jour is a 2003/04 built cabin Passenger ship Premicon AG , which under the ship management of KD Cruise Services Ltd. and is used in the time charter by the Bremen tour operator Transocean Kreuzfahrten for river cruises on the Rhine , Moselle , Main and Danube . From 2004 to 2013 she worked under the name Johann Strauss, initially for Austrian River Cruises and later for Noble Caledonia .

history

2013, as Johann Strauss in Cologne

The Bellejour was the third built of a total of six almost identical river cruise ships, which was commissioned as an investment project by Premicon AG from the Nobiskrug shipyard in Rendsburg . The limited partnership was around 8 million euros - the investment of investors was around 7 million euros . The ship was individually equipped and painted according to the wishes of the first charter participant, Austrian River Cruises (ARC). The shipyard handed over the completed ship to the client in March 2004. On April 1st the solemn baptism in the name of Johann Strauss took place in Amsterdam . Subsequently, the ship was mainly used on the Danube between Passau and Budapest. In mid-2006, Premicon terminated the transport contract concluded with ARC without notice, as there were high arrears in payment. From 2007 to 2013 there was a transport contract with the British tour operator Noble Caledonia , who had used them on various cruise routes on the Rhine, Main and Danube from April to December. The longest route runs from Amsterdam to the Danube Delta and takes 22 days. The ship is serviced in the port of Cologne-Niehl from January to March . Since April 1, 2014, it has been used by Transocean Kreuzfahrten , Premicon's own tour operator.

Furnishing

Rear view

The Bellejour is a four-deck cabin ship of the 4-star category with 90 double cabins of 16 m² each. The cabins, which are separated from one another by double walls for noise insulation, are air-conditioned and are each equipped with radio, satellite TV, minibar, safe and telephone. The cabins on the main and upper decks have a French balcony; the windows on the lower deck cannot be opened for safety reasons. The decks were named after music styles that Johann Strauss preferred in his compositions. The lower deck is called the Polka Deck , the main deck is called the Operetta Deck and the upper deck is called the Waltz Deck .

Behind the bow thruster room on the lower deck are 28 passenger cabins, which are connected by a staircase to the main deck. In the aft section there are supply and storage rooms as well as the 24 crew cabins. The main deck has an open deck at the bow, which is used as a relaxation area by the guests of the wellness area behind . This is followed by 44 cabins, which are separated by the entrance hall into areas of 12 and 32 units. On the upper deck at the bow there is the “Panorama Salon 3/4 cycle”, which is followed by the “Café Stadtpark”. In the central aisle is the restaurant "On the beautiful blue Danube" with 171 seats, to which the kitchen and 18 cabins are located aft. On the sun deck that begins behind the driver's cab, deckchairs and seating groups are available to passengers. The Belle Jour has no elevators and stair lifts and is therefore not suitable for disabled passengers.

technology

The ship is powered by two 16-cylinder diesel engines of 800 kW each of the type MTU -16V 2000 M60 via two Schottel rudder propellers, and it also has a bow thruster. The ship is 127.00 m long and 11.40 m wide. The draft is given as 1.50 m at normal load and 2.05 m at full load.

Ship name, namesake steamship Johann Strauss

The original name Johann Strauss (2004-2013) is in the tradition of the steam ship Johann Strauss of the DDSG.

This twin-screw steamer was built in 1853, was considered the most luxurious ship in the Austrian fleet until the 1960s, was decommissioned in 1985 and then anchored between Salztor and Marienbrücke on the right bank of the Danube Canal and operated as a restaurant, club and event ship.

Under the owner Norbert Weber, long-time general tenant of the Copa Cagrana on the Donauplatte , it was blocked in 2013 due to "imminent danger". Weber claims to have sold the ship without naming a new owner. According to Weber, he had plans to renovate a tourist cafe. An expert estimates the value of the ship - as scrap - at 2,000-3,000 euros, renovation requirements for approval as a ship at 700,000 euros.

The music-related code names of Bellejour go back to the original name of the music composer. Café Stadtpark alludes to the fact that there is a Johann Strauss monument in the Stadtpark Vienna.
