Ben Jeger

Benedikt "Ben" Jeger (born February 17, 1953 in Solothurn ) is a Swiss jazz and improvisation musician ( piano , accordion , violin , clavinet , glass harp , organ synthesizer ), arranger , band leader and film composer .

Live and act

Jeger received training in classical violin and piano. He completed his diploma at the Academy for School and Church Music in Lucerne. He then went to Karl Berger's Creative Music Studio in Woodstock (New York) to study. From the mid-1980s, Jeger played in the band Brom (with Tommy Meier , Urs Brentle , Fredi Flückiger, among others ) and especially in the band of the legendary circus theater Federlos . In the following decade he worked a. a. in various formations with Marco Käppeli , Peter Schärli and Co Streiff . In 1998/99 his debut album Ben Jeger Orkester - Idraulica! , followed by the 2005 Aria! Operacircus . In the 2000s he played in the Trio Chanteurs à Voix with Christoph Gantert and Dorothea Schürch . In the field of jazz he was involved in 15 recording sessions between 1985 and 2006.

Jeger received several composition commissions for theaters and artists, such as for Schang Hutter . In 1995 he was awarded the Solothurn Regiobank Advancement Prize, and in 1997 the Canton of Solothurn Music Prize. He has also worked as a film composer since the early 1980s; u. a. he wrote the soundtrack for the Markus Imboden films Der Verdingbub (2011, nomination for the Swiss Film Prize / Best Film Music ) and Am Hang (2013).
