Etymology and history

In the 19th century, Bergmannshaus belonged to the suburbs of the farmers and the parish Dönberg in the mayor's office of Hardenberg , which was renamed Neviges in 1935 . From 1816 to 1861 it belonged to the Elberfeld district and from 1861 to the old Mettmann district .

The place is marked on the municipality Charte of the Parzellar cadastre of the mayor's Hardenberg from 1815/16 as at Teschemachersbruch . The place is marked on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 as Bergmannshäusgen and on the Prussian first survey from 1843 as Teschemachers .

In the parish dictionary for the Rhineland province from 1888, two houses with 20 inhabitants are given.

With the municipal reform of 1929, the southern part of Dönberg was split off from Neviges and incorporated into the newly founded town of Wuppertal with other Neviges villages outside Dönberg, including Bergmannshaus. The city boundary between Wuppertal and Neviges ran north of Bergmannshaus until 1975, and to the south of it ran from Neviges to Elberfeld until 1929. As a result of the regional reform of North Rhine-Westphalia , Neviges came to the city of Velbert at the beginning of 1975 and the rest of the Dönberg was also incorporated into Wuppertal. As a result, Bergmannshaus lost its border location.
