Handweiser is a residential area in the north of the Bergisch city ​​of Wuppertal .

Location and description

The living space is in the north of the Dönberg residential area in the Uellendahl-Katernberg district on Landesstrasse 433 (here called Horather Strasse ) at an altitude of 280  m above sea level. NHN . In the local area, the street Am Krüppershaus branches off from Horather Straße , a street Am Handweise is in the vicinity.

Neighboring places, besides Dönberg, are the residential areas and farms of Winterberg , Krüppershaus , Steinenpitter , Hitzhaus , Grades and Stürmann .

history

In the 19th century, Handweiser was one of the suburbs of the farmers and the parish Dönberg in the mayor's office Hardenberg , which was renamed Neviges in 1935 . From 1816 to 1861 it belonged to the Elberfeld district and from 1861 to the old Mettmann district .

The place is marked on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 as a signpost and on the Prussian first survey from 1843 unlabeled. Up until the middle of the 20th century, the place is labeled as a hand sign on measuring table sheets .

In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province of 1888, a house with seven residents is given for Handweiser.

With the municipal reform of 1929, the southern part of Dönberg was split off and incorporated into the newly founded town of Wuppertal with other Nevigeser villages outside Dönberg, the rest of Dönberg with Handweiser initially remained with Neviges. Due to the regional reform of North Rhine-Westphalia , Neviges came to the city of Velbert at the beginning of 1975 and the rest of Dönberg was also incorporated into Wuppertal.
