Bernese Alps in the broader sense (SOIUSA)
The Bernese Alps in the broader sense are a mountain group in the Western Alps . Both in the SOIUSA mountain classification and in the Partizione-delle-Alpi classification , they are listed as section 12.
The highest mountain is the Finsteraarhorn at 4,274 m.

You border
- bounded in the north by the Swiss Prealps (from west to east) Gryonne Valley, Col de la Croix , Dar , Stigellegi , Simme , Geilsbach , Kandertal , Hohtürli , Sefinental , Trümmeltal , Imfysteren Graben , Grosse Scheidegg , Reichenbach , Aare , Gental , Jochpass , Grosstal and Isital
- in the west to the Savoy Prealps separated by the Rhone
- in the southwest on the Valais Alps bounded by the Rhone Valley
- in the southeast to the Lepontine Alps separated by Goms , Furkapass , Garschen , Ursern and Furkareuss
- in the east to the Glarus Alps in the broader sense bounded by the Reuss and Reuss Valley
structure
The Bernese Alps represent an elongated group in the area of the northern edge of the Alps. They consist of the following sub-groups (SOUISA: subsections):
- Bernese Alps in the narrower sense in the center ( Finsteraarhorn 4274 m above sea level )
- Uri Alps in the (north) east ( Dammastock 3630 m above sea level )
- Vaudois Alps in the (south) west ( Les Diablerets 3210 m above sea level )
The boundaries between these three groups can be seen on the Grimsel Pass or the Sanetsch Pass .
