Bernhard Jakschtat

Bernhard Jakschtat (born September 23, 1896 in Hamburg-Eppendorf ; † May 3, 1965 in Hamburg ) was a German folk , opera and operetta singer ( baritone ) as well as radio play speaker and radio artist.

Life

His father was a mason foreman. Jakschtat initially worked as a telegraph messenger at the post office. He had his first success with appearances on the song table of the Hamburg Post and Telegraph officials.

When the Nordische Rundfunk AG started broadcasting "Norag" on May 2, 1924 , his rise as a singer in popular entertainment programs began. There, after an audition, he was advised to have his voice trained. He then completed his baritone singing studies in Hamburg and Berlin. After that he soon became a permanent member of the station's artistic staff. In front of the Norag microphone he sang everything that was asked for: opera and operetta melodies, ballads by Carl Loewe , songs by Schubert and Brahms , folk songs and shanties. The writer Walter Rothenburg , who also worked with the Hamburg folk singer Charly Wittong , wrote the text for many of the local patriotic songs in Jakschtat's repertoire . With sea shanties from the Alster and Elbe, Jakschtat became a popular singer at the Hamburg Harbor Concert , in which he participated from 1929 to 1964. This year he celebrated his 40th anniversary as a singer.

Jakschtat sang before and after the Second World War records from the companies Grammophon , Lindström (record labels Gloria / Odeon ) and Philips . Through several tours he became known beyond his home in Hamburg.

In the feature film Zwei Bayern in St. Pauli in 1956 he worked alongside Beppo Brem , Joe Stöckl and Michl Lang as an innkeeper.

His grave is in the Ohlsdorf cemetery in Hamburg (E 16, No. 264–266).
