Bernhard Rudolf Abeken

Bernhard Rudolf Abeken (born December 1, 1780 in Osnabrück ; † February 24, 1866 there ) was a German philologist and teacher.

Life

Bernhard Rudolf Abeken was a son of the Osnabrück businessman Johann Wilhelm Abeken (1753–1800) and brother of the classical philologist and teacher Wilhelm Ludwig Abeken (). He studied theology and philosophy at the University of Jena . From 1803 he was tutor to Eberhard von der Recke in Berlin and from 1808 to Friedrich Schiller in Weimar . In 1810 he became vice principal of the Fridericianum grammar school in Rudolstadt . In 1815 he went to the Ratsgymnasium in Osnabrück and was rector there in 1841 . In 1863 he retired . His grave is on the Hasefriedhof in Osnabrück.

Bernhard Rudolf Abeken was the father of the classical archaeologist Wilhelm Abeken (1813–1843) and the author and politician Hermann Abeken (1820–1854). The theologian and politician Heinrich Abeken (1809–1872) and the politician Christian Wilhelm Ludwig von Abeken (1826–1890) were his nephews.
