Bernhard Steiner (born November 5, 1963 in Vienna ) is an Austrian conductor .

Life

Bernhard Steiner studied school music , composition , vocal pedagogy , choir and orchestra conducting at the Vienna University of Music . From 1989 to 1991 he was Kapellmeister at the Vienna Boys' Choir and conducted around 200 concerts in Austria , France , Switzerland , Italy , England , Ireland , Spain , Greece , USA and Canada . Rehearsals took place for the Wiener Festwochen , the Salzburg Festival as well as for record and television recordings.

With the Vienna String Orchestra , which he founded in 1989, he specialized in the performance of contemporary music and has directed numerous world premieres and Austrian premieres in Vienna and throughout Austria, guest performances and concert tours abroad as well as radio recordings and CD recordings. In 1991 Bernhard Steiner won the “Young Artists Forum” conducting competition of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and was then a permanent guest conductor of the Vienna Mozart Orchestra and the Vienna Waltz Orchestra. From 1994 to 1998 he was first guest conductor of the Dohnányi Symphony Orchestra Budapest.

In 1994, he was assistant to Norbert Balatsch at the Festival in Bayreuth and 1997 head coach and assistant to Lothar Zagrosek the International Opera course of Jeunesses Musicales in Weikersheim . After three years as Kapellmeister and choir director at the Stadttheater Gießen , Bernhard Steiner went from 1998 to 2003 in the same position at the Theater Koblenz .

In Germany , Bernhard Steiner conducted the State Orchestra Rheinische Philharmonie, the Northwest German Philharmonic Herford, the Bergische Symphoniker , the Bochumer Sinfoniker, the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen as well as the Prussian Chamber Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen. He also led guest performances at the theaters in Schwerin , Augsburg , Regensburg and Passau . In 2005 Bernhard Steiner conducted two touring productions of the “ Lustige Witwe ” and the “ Csárdásfürstin ” in the Netherlands and was musical director of the “ Cäcilia Wolkenburgdivertissement at the Cologne Opera House for the third time this year . Since 2001 Bernhard Steiner has also been the musical director of the Cologne Men's Singing Association .

In 2006 Bernhard Steiner was elected artistic director of the annual " Koblenz Mendelsso-Days ". As part of a teaching assignment for conducting, Steiner has been teaching at the Folkwang Musikhochschule in Essen since the beginning of the 2006 summer semester . Bernhard Steiner has been the first conductor and deputy general music director at Theater Hagen since summer 2008 . In 2011 he became chief conductor of the Bayer Philharmonic in Leverkusen .
