Bernhard von Puttkamer (General)

Bernhard Heinrich Adolf von Puttkamer (born August 2, 1825 in Versin , Rummelsburg district , † December 20, 1904 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and politician .

Life

He came from the Puttkamer family and was the son of the landlord von Versin , Franz von Puttkamer (1786–1834) and his wife Emilie, née von Below (1796–1879). His older brother Gustav von Puttkamer (1817–1879) became district administrator of the Rummelsburg district.

Puttkamer, coming from the cadet corps , joined the 2nd Guard Regiment on foot in the Prussian Army in August 1848 as a second lieutenant , participated in the suppression of the revolution in Berlin in March 1848 and rose to captain and company commander by the end of May 1858 . In the war against Austria in 1866 he led the 6th Company at Soor , Königinhof and Königgrätz and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords. In mid-August 1866 Puttkamer advanced to major and commander of the 1st battalion.

Promoted to lieutenant colonel during the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , Puttkamer was seriously wounded by a shot in the side in the battle of Gravelotte and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for his work .

After the peace treaty , Puttkamer was commissioned on January 9, 1872, initially with the command of the 1st Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 26 under position à la suite . In mid-March 1872 he was appointed regimental commander and a year later he was promoted to colonel . In approval of his resignation request, he was put up for disposition on September 16, 1873 with the statutory pension and the right to wear his regimental uniform. After his departure he received the character of major general.

Bernhard von Puttkamer was the owner of the manor in Groß Nipkau in the Rosenberg district in West Prussia and a legal knight of the Order of St. John . At times he also owned Sellin in the Rummelsburg district, which he inherited together with his brother Gustav in 1871, owned by himself from 1874 and sold in 1884 to Waldemar von Puttkamer on Neu Kolziglow.

At the presentation of the Association of the Pomeranian Family von Puttkamer , which had been granted the right to present the Prussian mansion in 1895 , Bernhard von Puttkamer was appointed a member of the Prussian mansion for life in 1896 .

He had been married to his distant relative Elisabeth Emilie Eugenie von Puttkamer (* 1841) since 1859, a daughter of the lawyer and politician Eugen von Puttkamer . The marriage resulted in a son and three daughters. The daughter Anna von Puttkamer (* 1860) married Kurt Detloff von Schwerin in 1884 , then the district administrator of the Usedom-Wollin district and later district president in Köslin .
