Bernie Wrightson
Bernie "Berni" Wrightson (born October 27, 1948 in Baltimore , Maryland ; † March 18, 2017 in Austin , Texas ) was an American comic artist who was best known for his horror comics such as Swamp Thing .
Life
Bernie Wrightson joined DC Comics in 1968 after a few years as a cartoonist for The Baltimore Sun newspaper and has drawn for numerous series, including House of Mystery and House of Secrets . In 1971 he created the horror figure Swamp Thing together with author Len Wein , which got its own series of magazines a year later. In 1974 Wrightson went to Warren Publishing and drew for the black and white magazines Eerie , Creepy and Vampirella . This was followed by a comic adaptation of the film Creepshow by Stephen King . In 1983 he created an adaptation of the novel Frankenstein for the Marvel publishing house . In the late 1980s he made a Spider-Man album, an album with Hulk and Das Ding, and a mini-series in four issues for DC: Batman : The Cult . He also made illustrations for the horror comic collection The Reaper of Love and Other Stories , which was published in 1989 by Norbert Hethke Verlag as an anthology, Schnitter der Liebe and other stories . Bernie Wrightson was married to the cartoonist Michele Wrightson (1941-2015), with whom he had two sons. Both were divorced some time before her death.

Episode 16 of the seventh season, the season finale, the TV series The Walking Dead was dedicated to Bernie Wrightson.
