Berthold Stölzer
Berthold Stölzer (born February 21, 1881 in Sömmerda in the Weissensee district , † 1943 in Hanover ) was a German sculptor and bookplate artist.
Life
Little seems to be known about the life of Berthold Stölzer. As an autodidact, he evidently taught himself most of his artistry as a sculptor .
In addition to works made of marble , cast brass or bronze , some of which found their way into museums and galleries, the artist created memorials , for example , which were installed in the cities of Celle , Hanover and Hildesheim . In the graphic field, Stölzer also worked as an ex-libris artist.
In 1935, Stölzer created, among other things, two life-size merchant figures as part of the architectural sculpture on the stone portal of the Hanoverian Grotehaus . The building was destroyed by the air raids on Hanover during the Second World War in 1943 - in the same year Stölzer was killed - but the sculptures were made in the post-war period based on Stölzer's template in 1949 by Ludwig Vierthaler at the coffee merchant's company Ernst Grote newly installed building at the address Breite Straße 10 .
