The Bibers is a 22 km long river in northern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the Kocher from the left and north-west near the village of Westheim in the municipality of Rosengarten .

geography

course

The Beaver begins its course at around 488  m above sea level. NHN on the edge of the road L 1046 from central Waldenburg to the suburb of Obersteinbach near Streithof in a still flat, southeast-oriented hollow. The uppermost section of the stream does not always carry water, this is only the case after the runoff from the Burgvogtsee in the southern Waldgewanns Burgerschlag . Then it bends south at Ziegelhütte.

Its direction becomes almost imperceptibly more easterly in the rest of the way until it flows approximately again towards the southeast at the mouth. After a strong 2 km it reaches the Neumühlsee , about 5 hectares in size , which has another tributary from the left in the Goldbach . Almost 6 km below the source, it runs through the 10-hectare Sailach reservoir , then the town of Gnadental (about 7 km), the first larger settlement in the valley. From here it becomes steadily wider to Michelfeld, where the Bibers is crossed by the B 14 (approx. 12 km). From here the floodplain becomes narrower, the forest recedes from the valley slopes, the Bibers now flows in a narrow basin that is only 30 m deep in the wide, agriculturally used hilly landscape of the rose garden . It passes Bibersfeld (approx. 14 km), Rieden (approx. 17 km) and the Ziegelmühle, where the 4.7 km long Dendelbach , the longest tributary, flows into it from the right, and finally flows south of Westheim after a stretch of a little over 21 km at an altitude of 308  m above sea level. NHN in the cooker .

Catchment area

The northern part lies in the subspace Waldburger mountains of the natural environment Swabian-Franconian Forest , the southern part in the subspace Haller bay with Rose Garden of the natural environment Hohenloher and Haller level , that is the Keuper edge cove of the beaver-receiving water digester , the further down then emerges into the open plain.

The 63.3 km² catchment area is asymmetrical. While on the upper reaches the near Ohrn competes with its tributaries on the right, on the lower reaches the near and lower-lying Kocher on the left , both competitors are oriented towards the Rhine . To the right of the Beaver, many small tributaries have pushed back the stratification to the Stubensandstein . The balance shows a right-hand catchment area with a length of 17 km (origin – mouth) with a maximum width of 5 km.

geology

The origin of the beaver lies on the silica sandstone plateau of the northern Waldenburg mountains . It then soon runs in the Lower Bunter Mergeln and enters the reed sandstone a little before the Neumühlsee . Already a little below to Michelfeld it runs in the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld formation ). Even before the inlet of the Baierbach , the floodplain is flat and wide filled with floodplain sediment. The Lettenkeuper follows the tributary of the Wolfringenbach between Bibersfeld and Rieden . The section of the valley from there to the inlet of the Dendelbach lies in the Upper Muschelkalk . The remaining section of the valley, especially in the wide floodplain of the Kocher, is again largely filled with floodplain sediment and, after the sequence of layers, could partially lie in the Lettenkeuper again, because the Neckar-Jagst furrow that crosses the Kocher valley here causes the layers to be locally deeper.

Communities and places on the run

landscape

The Beaver upper course lies in a forest valley that is soon narrow, except for the hamlet of Neumühle, which gave the swimming lake its name, completely unpopulated, with trees as far as the shore. Settlements are in this area on the surrounding plateau, mostly small hamlets in cleared islands. Behind Gnadental begins a thin settlement with mostly single farms, but it sticks to the foot area of the slopes. From Michelfeld the population is denser, concentrated in the three villages Michelfeld, Bibersfeld and Rieden. Except in Gnadental and Rieden, the settlement avoids the floodplain close to the water.

Sights and buildings

  • Entlesboden nature reserve , on the K 2362 Waldenburg – Sailach approx. 1 km before Sailach. Waterlogged elevation area with thin forest, historical forest pasture.
  • Lime sintering on the upper Wagrainbach.
