Bible of the Beast is the third album by the German power metal band Powerwolf . It was released on April 24, 2009 on Metal Blade Records .

Emergence

The band worked with Fredrik Nordström , who, like on their debut, did the mix in the Fredman studio in Hyssna, southeast of Gothenburg . The music was recorded in the Kohlkeller Studios Seehem and the singing in the vocal studio in Neunkirchen . In addition, the organ was recorded in the St. Barbe Chapel in Crusnes , Thionville . It was a real church organ that Falk Maria Schlegel was allowed to operate. Additional choir arrangements were made in Studio 5 of the Saarland University of Music . The direction of the choir was taken over by Francesco Cottone , the singing teacher of singer Karsten Brill. All the choir singers worked on the album on a voluntary basis.

Publications

The album was released on April 24, 2019 both in the normal standard version and in digipak with an additional DVD. The limited version was sold out three days after it was released.

Various vinyl releases were released on August 11, 2017. Including a gold LP limited to 200 copies, which was exclusively available from Napalm Records , a red-transparent pressing for Europe and a red / black splatter vinyl via eBay . There was also an unlimited 180g vinyl.

Music genre

Musically, Bible of the Beast is , like its predecessors, classic Power Metal in the style of Manowar , Mystic Prophecy and Rage , but also heavy metal in the style of Iron Maiden and Mercyful Fate as well as hard rock in the style of Lordi . Karsten Brill's singing, alias “Attila Dorn”, has a fake Romanian accent to express the vampire aspect of his character. He also has an opera training, which gives his singing additional expression. On this album his vocals are a little heavier and less melodic for the first time than on the previous ones.

Lyrically, the album can be seen at least as a concept album in part. Much of the text is based on the vicious image of the Bible . They are very black-humored, serve various metal clichés and consist of many puns.

reception

The record was the first album by the band to be placed in the German charts and reached number 76.

The Metal Hammer saw Bible of the Beast as "so far" "best" album of the band. “ Bible of the Beast has everything that makes Powerwolf stand out - hymns, pounders and humor - but this time without slipping too much into kitsch.” Singer “Attila Dorn” praised the much more aggressive singing.

Metal.de wrote: “ Bible of the Beast has become a fast, extremely catchy Metal album that will especially please fans of the bombastic variety. Large quantities of orchestral and choral elements included, of course. ”This website also praised the“ extraordinarily good performance ”“ Dorns ”. As a listener, however, you have to "bring along the necessary breeze of tolerance and black humor in order to really be able to do something with this music."

Brother Cle from Rock Hard described the album as a "perfect metal album" and awarded 10 points. “If the Bible Of The Beast had appeared in the eighties, POWERWOLF would be playing in big arenas today. (…) A masterpiece! Hear ´Raise Your Fist, Evangelist´ or ´Werewolves Of Armenia´ and believe! "
