William "Bill" Aston (born March 29, 1900 in Hopton , † March 4, 1974 in Lingfield ) was a British automobile racing driver .
Career
Bill Aston was an amateur and enthusiast. In the late 1940s, Aston was highly successful in British Formula 3 with a Cooper -Jap-500cc . In addition to his victories on the island, he won the races in Brussels and Zandvoort in 1949 . In 1950 he won the Lavant Cup at Goodwood .
Aston was a civil engineer and fruit grower; he used it to finance his racing activities. Together with Robin Montgomerie-Charrington , he built the formula vehicles for Aston Butterworth . However, the narrow vehicles were unsuccessful because there were constant problems with the fuel supply. Aston made a single appearance at a Formula 1 World Championship race . With the Aston MB 41 Butterworth, he dropped out of the 1952 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring in the second round.
Aston remained connected to motorsport well into old age. He drove for Jaguar and Aston Martin in British touring car races and won his class not infrequently until the late 1960s.
