William "Bill" Thomas (born June 20, 1983 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with Anyang Halla in the Asia League Ice Hockey since 2018 .
Career
Thomas began his career in the 2000/01 season with the Cleveland Junior Barons in the American Junior League North American Hockey League , before moving to Tri-City Storm after two seasons in the United States Hockey League . Between 2004 and 2006, the attacker was on the ice for the University of Nebraska Omaha University team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association , which is part of the NCAA's gaming operations .
In March 2006 Thomas was signed by the Phoenix Coyotes from the National Hockey League (NHL) and completed his first games in the NHL at the end of the 2006/07 season . In the two following years, the Americans usually played with the San Antonio Rampage , the farm team of the Coyotes in the American Hockey League (AHL) and came despite good offensive performances there only sporadically in the NHL used. In the summer of 2008, the right-shooter moved to the Pittsburgh Penguins from the NHL, but again spent most of his time with the farm team Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins in the AHL. After taking part in a training camp for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the run-up to the 2009/10 season , he was signed up at the beginning of the season by the AHL team Springfield Falcons as part of a try-out contract.
In January 2010 Thomas decided to move to Europe and joined the Swiss club HC Lugano from the National League A , but returned to North America after only six games and was henceforth under contract with the Florida Panthers . In the following two years, the American was mainly active there with the respective farm teams Rochester Americans and San Antonio Rampage in the AHL. The same happened to him after a change within the NHL to organize the Colorado Avalanche , here the versatile offensive player completed the full season 2012/13 with the farm team Lake Erie Monsters in the AHL.
In the summer of 2013 another move to Europe followed, to the Croatian club KHL Medveščak Zagreb from the Continental Hockey League . Thomas wore jersey number 9 there between 2013 and 2015.
Between June 2015 and 2016 Thomas played for MODO Hockey in the Svenska Hockeyligan , before he switched to the EBEL at EC Red Bull Salzburg in June 2016 .
After a try-out contract in the Finnish Liiga at Tampereen Ilves , which he did not want to extend, Thomas moved to the Kölner Haien in January 2018 .
