Birgit Stein

Birgit Stein (* 1968 ; † August 2, 2018 in Kanab , Utah , United States ) was a German actress and filmmaker.

Career

Birgit Stein studied acting for two years at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in Los Angeles and 18 months at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in Los Angeles and then received technical lessons from Paul Mackley in Los Angeles. She also obtained her diploma from the German Sport University Cologne .

She made her acting debut in 1994 in the low-budget horror film Amoklauf by Uwe Boll , in which she played the neighbor of Martin Armknecht's character. In the same year, further appearances in film and television productions followed such as Ein Fall für Zwei , Keiner liebe mich and Voll normaaal as well as its sequel Ballermann 6 from 1997. She was also seen in two other Boll productions, in Sanctimony - Auf murderous Course from 2000 and House of the Dead (2003) alongside her future husband Jürgen Prochnow . In 2003 Stein wrote the script for the short film Don't Get Stuck , in which she played and also directed. In 2010 she stood next to Franka Potente in the thriller Valerie in front of the camera. In 2013 the film comedy was released without grace! with Sylta Fee Wegmann , Jan Fedder and Thomas Heinze , in which Stein made another appearance as a director .

Private

She lived in Los Angeles and was married to actor Jürgen Prochnow from 2004 to 2014 .

On August 2, 2018, she had a motorcycle accident in Utah on the way to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally , in which she was hit by a pickup truck together with a group of motorcycle riders . Her husband Hans-Jürgen Stangl was seriously injured; a passenger died at the scene of the accident. Stein died at Kane County Hospital in Kanab . She was 50 years old.
