Birkigt is a district of the municipality of Harth-Pöllnitz in the Greiz district in Thuringia .

Neighboring towns are Forstwolfersdorf , Wetzdorf , Niederpöllnitz and Rohna .

history

The first documentary mention of the 25-inhabitant hamlet of Birkigt took place on June 25, 1230.

The hamlet is not far from federal highway 2 and can be easily reached via a connecting road. The district is wavy and hilly and well suited for arable farming. To the south there is a forest on the hills.

The hamlet was formerly inhabited by four farming families, whose large farms characterize the place. In 1935 Birkigt was partially destroyed by a windpipe. Today there is a larger pig breeding facility here.
