Frießnitz is a district of the municipality of Harth-Pöllnitz in the Greiz district in Thuringia .

geography

Friessnitz Lake

Frießnitz is about five kilometers west of Weida and about 20 km south of Gera on the federal highway 175 . On the outskirts is the 8 hectare lake, which u. a. is fed by the Struthbach and drained by the Mühlbach, which flows into the Auma not far from Grochwitz . The lake is used by the Weida Anglers' Association as a preliminary stretch of water. Until the mid-1980s there was a duck fattening operation on the lake, later a carp production facility. After the lake was desludged for the last time in 1979 to prevent silting, another desludging took place in 2013, during which more than 10,000 cubic meters of sludge should be removed. The project is mainly funded by EU funds.

The lake and the surrounding area with a size of about 300 hectares has the status of a European Fauna-Flora Habitat No. 146 and is designated as a bird sanctuary in the EU. From 2012 a group of Romanian water buffalo with 12 animals will be settled here in order to counteract the reformation. In the course of nature conservation, almost all the poplars on the lake dam were felled. An observation tower has also been built. The Quarkteich is located about 1 km out of town in the direction of Burkersdorf .

history

Frießnitz was first mentioned in a document in 1267, in the deed of foundation of the St. Catherine altar of the Weidaer Peterskirche of the bailiffs of Weida, Plauen and Gera. It emerged as a Sorbian settlement called Vrisenitz during the third group of Sorbian settlements. The Sorbian Vresnica means something like Heidefeld or Heidebach. The spelling changed over the centuries via Frisenitz (1356) and Frisenicze (1416) to the form in use today. In 1416 reference was made to a mill in “mostad an der Friseniz”. 150 years later there was a new mill. This pond mill was demolished in 1968–1970 because it was in disrepair. The lake, which produced 40 quintals of carp per year for centuries, was sold to Weida in 1911 at their request. The place was electrified from 1913 .

In 1923 the manor belonged to Karl Graf v. Hohenthal-Puchau. Gustav Popp was the tenant of the 50 hectare farm. The company was expropriated after the Second World War and transferred to farmers.

On April 9, 1994, Frießnitz merged with Köfeln and Burkersdorf to form the municipality of Harth . This in turn merged on December 21, 1995 with the neighboring municipality of Pöllnitz to form the municipality of Harth-Pöllnitz.

Mayor of Frießnitz

traffic

Bundesstraße 2 , which runs past the site about two kilometers to the west, was built as Chausseestraße in 1816/17. From here you can reach the neighboring town of Großebersdorf and the independent city of Gera . In 1847/46 the construction of the federal highway 175 leading through the village took place. In the years 1869 to 1872 the railway line Gera - Triptis - Saalfeld / Saale was built on the southern edge of the village, between Frießnitz and Grochwitz.

Others

"Quarkteich" is the name of the small pond halfway between Frießnitz and Burkersdorf on the B 175. With its willow and reed vegetation , it serves as a quarter for swans, wild ducks and frogs every year . The observation confirms that its direct proximity to open fields and forests also enables larger animals living there to take up water undisturbed. A golf course is located on the adjacent site, which was previously used for agriculture . The Romanesque church is at 5 Kirchberg Street.
