Rohna is a district of the municipality of Harth-Pöllnitz in the district of Greiz in the east of Thuringia .

geography

Rohna is located in a small valley on both banks of the Auma , which flows through the middle of the village. Rohna can be reached from the federal highway 2 via the Mittelpöllnitz junction (approx. 6 km) or from the A 9 via the Triptis exit (approx. 11 km). In a north-easterly direction, Weida is the next town after 6 km and Gera after about 22 km.

history

In 1143 Rohna was first mentioned in a copy of documents from the Mildenfurth monastery . 1168–1193 records Kahl. Since this is not an original document, it is not recognized as an official first mention. Rohna was mentioned here as a gift from Countess Lucardis (also Leukard) von Lauterberg (today Coburg district) on the occasion of the wedding with Heinrich I von Weida in the monastery properties.

In 1209 Rohna was mentioned in a document as a gift from Voigt Heinrich I and his wife to the St. Vitus Church. In 1209 Rohna is already included in the accessories of the St. Vitus Church. The next mention of Rohna comes from the possession of the Mildenfurth monastery in 1230.

In 1551 Rohna becomes an independent parish of Niederpöllnitz with Niederpöllnitz and Wetzdorf .

1594 is written for the first time by the miller Thomas Plitzsch, who looks after the water mill on the Auma. It was a grinding and cutting mill and had a mill ditch behind the village that led to the mill pond. In 1933 the miller had financial worries and sold his property. The end came with a fire on September 3rd and 4th, 1961. The mill and house burned down. History is the milling in the village. The current homestead with the dormer windows is inhabited by a family.

In 1721 Rohna had 105 inhabitants with 19 fireplaces. The village brewed itself and has a blacksmith.

In the newspaper encyclopedia of Saxony from 1814 it was noted: “... field cultivation cannot be profitable because of the mountainous soil, but the inhabitants have beautiful wood and make good profit from it by selling firewood, timber and boards. An old legal peculiarity of the place is that the residents sometimes search for houses among themselves, not to track down thefts but to make them more difficult. "

The place has been under ensemble protection as an architectural monument since 1993. It is thanks to this fact that the original character of the village has been preserved.

On April 9, 1994, the once independent municipality was incorporated into the municipality of Pöllnitz . On December 21, 1995, the company was reclassified to Harth-Pöllnitz.

Buildings

church

Today's church, which significantly shapes the townscape, was rebuilt in 1823 in place of the old wooden church that was destroyed by lightning and fire. Since 1868 the church has also had an organ made by the Poppe company from Stadtroda. A lightning strike in 1933 destroyed large parts of the church and the roof. This required a further reconstruction, in the course of which another renovation was necessary. In 2009, the exterior facade was completely renovated, which has allowed the church to shine in its old splendor since then. The interior was restored in 2012 in accordance with a listed building.

Three-arched stone bridge

A three-arched stone bridge has spanned the Auma in the middle of the village since 1860. This was renovated in 2002 and has been an eye-catcher in the townscape since then. The bridge, like the entire village, is a listed building.

Regular events

There is an annual village festival on a fixed date from Ascension Day until the following Sunday. The fire brigade exit of the surrounding towns organized by the Rohna Fire Brigade and Flood Protection Association is a traditional part of this.

Since August 2011, charity concerts have been held in the church on special occasions to collect donations for the church. The world-famous bass Barseg Tumanyan was won over for the first concert. This concert took place on August 19, 2011 and can also be watched on youtube.
