History and description

The initiator of the tower construction was the medical council August Tischmann, who chaired the building committee founded in 1902. The first donations were collected in November 1902, so that the construction work, which was carried out by the Bad Lauterberg master mason Walter Nagel, could begin quickly. The laying of the foundation stone took place on April 10, 1904, the inauguration ceremony on July 19, 1904. On July 17, 2004 the 100th anniversary was celebrated.

The approximately 15 m high Bismarck tower on a square floor plan with about 6 m edge length was built from porphyry and bricks . A relief by Bismarck made in the bronze foundry is located halfway above the entrance to the tower. There was a fire bowl on the top of the tower, which was removed in 1987. In 2000 the building was completely renovated.

In the tower, a 60-step stone staircase in the basement and middle floor and an 11-step iron spiral staircase on the upper floor lead to the 4 m by 4 m viewing platform at around 550  m above sea level. NHN . The tower is accessible during the opening times of the neighboring Bismarck Tower Bad Lauterberg ( Kummelbaude ) restaurant .
