Bispyribac sodium is a chemical compound from the group of pyrimidines and benzoic acid esters and a herbicide jointly developed by Kumiai and Ihara Chemical Industries and introduced in 1997 .

Extraction and presentation

Bispyribac sodium can be obtained by reacting benzyl-2,6-dihydroxybenzoate with 2-methylsulfonyl-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine (DMSP) and subsequent hydrogenation . An alternative method starts from 2-chloro-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine .

use

Bispyribac sodium is a systemic post-emergence herbicide with high selectivity for direct-sown rice. It works by inhibiting acetolactate synthase .

Admission

In some EU countries, plant protection products with this active ingredient have been approved since August 1, 2011, but not in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.
