history

The diocese of Dedza was on April 29, 1956 by Pope Pius XII. established with the Apostolic Constitution Etsi cotidie from assignments of territory by the Apostolic Vicariates Likuni and Zomba as Apostolic Vicariate Dedza . On April 25, 1959, the Apostolic Vicariate Dedza was by Pope John XXIII. raised to a diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Cum christiana fides and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Blantyre as a suffragan . On February 9, 2011, the Diocese of Dedza was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Lilongwe as a suffragan.
